How fun to have a contest!!! Cancer SUX!
ReplyDeleteCancer DOES suck! All of us have suffered from the aftermath of cancer--some have undergone countless treatments, lost hair, held a loved ones hand at the end, lost a loved one to cancer, or shouted from the roof tops when screenings come back cancer-free! Cancer is everywhere. Most recently for me, my Uncle just passed away on February 28th from cancer. And I just found out today, that my dear friend from college is battling breast cancer for the 2nd time, at age 29. On a positive note, my 90-year-old grandmother will celebrate being cancer free for 44 years, this spring. I admire those of you (like Tristan and Adam, and AlaskaRocks) for helping support Cancer Awareness by helping raise money. YOU ROCK!
ReplyDeletegreat idea! love the spelling of sucks! so cute.

I have never won anything before. My best friend is a cancer survivor (liver, when she was a baby). She is my total hero. Not only did she survive but she is graduating college in May in nursing and she plans on being a Pediatric oncology nurse. Her story is amazing! Long, but amazing! I would love to give this to her. Its quirky just like her.

PS. I see I was a little confused. Thank you!
What a great contest! I have lost two grandparents to cancer and have a Grandma and three aunts that are cancer survivors. And I have a friend fighting cervical cancer now. This necklace just warms my heart. The only comment I can share is that my friend's faith and perserverance are truly an inspiration. I fear I lack the grace to handle a situation the way she does, but I suppose you never know until you're there. Cancer DOES suck.
ReplyDeleteoh i love this necklace. my moms birthday is this month and my dad needs to give her this necklace. he just got the test results that he is cancer free after a bout with colon cancer. she was his rock, the whole family's rock actually. amazing charm!!
ReplyDeleteCancer does suck! I lost my dad when I was 19 years old. I now have 2 sweet little girls that I so wish could have had the chance to know their grandpa...he loved children and I know he would have loved them so much. I miss him everyday.
ReplyDeleteCancer is one of those horrible diseases that doesn't discriminate between its victims. I've known people in their golden years, mid-life, and middle school be diagnosed-some make it out with a clean bill of health, while others do not survive no matter how aggressive the treatment.
ReplyDeleteAnd who knows what or who you're supposed to believe when it comes to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment? There's so much floating around on the internet, so many conflicting opinions. As a young woman who has a history of breast cancer in my family, it truly hit hard when new studies showed that we didn't need to "worry" about self-exams or getting yearly mammograms (or worse, that they were ineffective and/or would not be covered by health insurance providers).
Overall-the most important thing is to educate yourself about your own body and be your own advocate. To be bold, to be confident, to be educated, to be compassionate. We must advocate for clarity, common knowledge, and accessibility to information. With commitment, I truly believe we can work together towards kicking cancer's butt.
Yep, you're so right, Cancer really does suck...I haven't personally had cancer but have many people in my life who have been affected by it. My mother in law passed away three years ago at the age of 56 to cancer. A dear friend has battled it. And my neighbor has battles breast cancer while at the same time lost her dad to cancer...then just a couple months ago lost her mother in law to cancer. I could go on and on. It stinks.
ReplyDeleteBUT God has an amazing way of working through people during the tough times and He will bring light to the darkness in all situations...we just need to look for it because it's so there.
I love how raw and how beautiful this necklace is that you have created...a wonderful piece of artwork. Thanks for the opportunity to post. Take care. :)
you are so sweet to be doing a giveaway and donating your profits!
ReplyDeletemy friend's dear mom (she's one of those "community moms"- everyone calls her Miss Anne) has colon cancer right now and is going through chemo and radiation. i've been photographing her journey and it's so thrilling to watch her positive attitude through it all. her faith is so strong. not even cancer can't bring her down. she's so amazing and quite an encouragement of how far faith will bring a person. i'd love to give her this necklace!
:)
Cancer sucks big. Christmas 2005 was the beginning of a terrible time for my family. My Mimie and I went to the mall and did our usual "shop til you drop" day for everyone. She couldn't catch her balance AT all. It was more and more apparent through the holiday. She decided to make an appointment with her doctor and had found out that she had a brain tumor. They scheduled surgery for soon after, and they got it all. But, they didn't. It spread to other places. she underwent a round of chemo and radiation and it was terrible for her. Just a mere few months later, she lost her battle to cancer. I'm so terribly lucky that I got 24 of the most beautiful years with her wisdom and love. It's what got me through the rest of my pregnancy that year. I still wish she could hold my son.
ReplyDeletethis is great! my favorite teacher in high school was diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of the school and was undergoing rounds of chemotherapy when i had her for engish class. despite the physical, mental, and emotional drain of the treatments, she was the most engaging, enthusiastic teacher i've had to date. she's an inspiring lady and i'm happy to say she's doing very well and is in remission.
ReplyDeleteCancer really does suck. This year both of my grandmothers were diagnosed. One had breast cancer and went through chemo and radiation. She's doing great. The other was diagnosed with lung cancer that has spread to her brain, liver, kidneys and bones. She's in a nursing home now (which has been very hard to see) because she falls a lot and just can't take care of herself anymore. I've learned a lot about both of my grandmothers this past year. I hope I never get cancer, but if I do I hope I go through treatment as courageously as they have.
ReplyDeleteAgh right now my Godmother who is my 2nd MOM is battling cancer now for the 3rd time in her pancreas AND its spreading, Im devesated b/c all though I have seen My friends, Step-Mother, Uncle, Cousins all go thru some form a cancer and SURVIVE it seems to NEVER gets easier. For anyone who has lost someone so dear to them my heart is with you and for those who survived my hat is off for you because its YOU who are the heros and fighters. Yes this necklace is lovely but its the words that I keep yelling out all the time. stinkypeace.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI love this necklace. Cancer does suck. My aunt has had breast cancer three times, and then was unfortunate after her mastectomy to have one of her implants explode inside her, and she had to have ANOTHER surgery. It's enough to make you want to scream or cry or something. I love this, and your message to spread awareness.
ReplyDeleteTristan:
ReplyDeleteTotally love your jewelry! So cute! I love your ideas to create and spread awareness! I am going to check out your site and see all your pieces! :)

I'm a young breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed at the age of 34 and one month pregnant with my second child. My whole world came to a stand still. With faith, determination and hope I pushed forward with treatment. I had an amazing team of doctors who watched me and my unborn child closely. My pregnancy was anything but "normal." I had a unilateral mastectomy and received 6 rounds of chemotherapy. Chemo ended one month prior to the due date. I'm happy to say that my son was born on January 8, 2008. He is my little miracle. And, this year I will be celebrating my third Cancerversary.
ReplyDeletemy classmate dad had colon cancer and because of that he has very bad temper

So many friends and family members have suffered from cancer, although fortunately, none have died. There's been breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian, tongue, and skin cancers...
ReplyDeleteI'm a big support of Relay for Life and other cancer fundraisers. Thanks so much for the giveaway!

My husband's grandmother had cancer of the fallopian tubes 10+ years ago, went into remission, and it has now come back in the form of lung cancer and has already infiltrated her bones. The doctor has revealed that it is terminal and, even though she's undergoing chemo, she's 86 years old and not doing well. It's just awful to watch and since she is the matriarch of the family it's bringing out the worst in people and I hate cancer.

OMG A colleague and dear friend of mine has just had her mom diagnosed with lung cancer (never touched a cigarette in her life) having spread to the brain so it's uncertain how long she has left... Still she's undergoing radio- and chemotherapy. She's experiencing permanent hair loss from the radiotherapy and lost her sense of taste and got acne flares that look like burns on her face from the chemo. My colleague is an only child and a single mom of two so you can imagine how challenging it is for her at the moment. If I win this necklace I'll give it to her so we can at least share a laugh or at least a smile on this dramatic situation.

Cancer can affect anyone at anytime. My 17 year old cousin battled cancer for 3 years. He is in remission at the moment and i hope it stays that way.

Cancer definitely sux! Everyone who has died in my family has died of a different form of cancer - breast, bone, pancreatic, liver, colon, etc.
ReplyDeleteMatt's aunt is currently fighting her bazillionth bout with cancer and man is she is a trooper. She is a special ed teacher and is just the brightest, most positive woman I've ever met. She's awesome.
my fiance has cancer - luckily he caught it early, but he's not even 40 yet! it's been awful but good that it didn't spread........ he gets LOTS of check-ups still - we honestly still cannot believe it's true, it just seems so unreal
ReplyDeleteI have personally lost a family member to cancer. SO, this rings very true for me. I'd love to wear this for the world to see!
ReplyDeleteThanks!

My bestie lost a mother to this disease. How horrible it was. We were only teens then. Even though it has been a few years it is still scary to think that life can be taken away just like that.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to give this necklace to my bestie.
