Girls on the Run is so much F-U-N!!!

Last year I was approached by a friend of a friend who was trying to start Alaska's first chapter of Girls on the Run. She was looking for a coach at one of the elementary schools. It sounded fun and exciting and it was a free trip to North Carolina for the training so I said "YES!" even though I wasn't really sure of what I was agreeing to!
Girls on the Run is a prevention program that teaches girls be healthy both physically and emotionally. In the last year Juneau's program has expanded to include 4 schools and schools around Southeast. It's been such a great experience for me as the coach and I think the girls enjoyed themselves too!
Today was our 5K and it was amazing! There was face painting, silly hair, balloon animals and of course RUNNING! All the girls finished and had a lot of fun along the way!

A little Rain

It's hard to complain about a little rain after such amazing weather. Most of our classes had beach day today. The principal and I made the beach rounds and ate hotdogs with the kids. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves. It would've been nice to have another sunny day for the kids but none of them seemed too upset about a few sprinkles.
Adam is takng his kids up to the Mendenhall Glacier tomorrow. I hope the rain will hold off for their hike. It's a pretty long hike so decent weather would be nice. We're down to 8 days of school. We have field days, the end of the year slide show, graduation and autograph signing to fill up the last few days. Rollin', rollin', rollin'!

I love that we have friends who don't think 8:30 is too late to start a bonfire....
I love that I have a husband who will give me a back massage if I let him buy a new movie....
I love that we live in Alaska and can pick amazing berries and turn them into jam....

Another Hostel Booked!

It's crazy but one month from today we'll be in Australia! We booked our last hostel today. So, while in Brisbane we'll be staying at the Kookaburra Inn http://www.kookaburra-inn.com.au/ . We'll rent a car and drive down the coast to visit some of the smaller towns along the way.
Next we head to Cairns and are staying at JJ's Backpackers http://www.jjsbackpackers.com/ for 5 nights then head out to a small town called Yungaburra to sightsee and make a didgeridoo. While we're there we'll stay at On the Wallaby http://www.onthewallaby.com/ for a night before we need to leave for Sydney.
Sydney is where I scored a great deal on Priceline.com. We'll be staying at the Marriott http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sydcc-sydney-marriott-hotel .
The countdown is on!!!

There's Nothing Better than the WeEkEnD!!!

Ahhhh, seems these days I live for the weekends! School has been busy with all the end of the year stuff. Tuesday and Wednesday night we went to the kids' music concerts and Thursday night my Girls on the Run group did their practice 5K (they all managed to finish!!!!). With all the evening stuff going on it made for a long week! We only have 14 school days left and I think we're ALL counting them down!

This weekend I bought our tickets to Anchorage. We'll be able to spend a few days visiting my brother and nephew before we drive up to Homer to catch the ferry for Seldovia. Our friends are getting married in Seldovia and I get to perform their ceremony. I'm looking forward to this whole summer-it should be quite the adventure!

This weekend I remembered that there's nothing better than....
Sleeping in a little....
Snuggling with the hubby, dog AND cat....
Coffee and a bagel from Breeze In...
Garage-saleing with the hubby on a sunny day....
NaPs.....
Catching up with good friends and good wine...

Ahhh, weekends ~ I hope yours was wonderful too...

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the mommy's out there! I hope you are treated especially well today.
Here are a few Mother's Day quotes that I thought were good. Enjoy.

God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers. - Jewish Proverb

A young boy said to his mother, 'How old were you when I was born?' His mother replied, '23.' 'Wow, that's a lot of time we missed spending together.' - Unknown

only a mother as perfect as you, could have a child as perfect as me - bobby pin
