Camera Love

I am absolutely loving my two new camera accessories.
The first one is a "gorillapod" which is a small tripod that is super heavy duty, light weight and bendable. http://joby.com/products/gorillapod/slrzoom/

The second is a funky, durable, and comfy camera strap. http://www.myfunkycamera.com/store/Default.asp

One more week!

It's hard to imagine that in one week we will be on a plane to "the land down under"!!! Rosco is ready to go live with Uncle Bob & Aunt Molly for a few weeks and Linus is content with having Rob come visit him every once and a while...maybe Rob will bring his kitty for a play date!

I've been working at the Red Dog in the evenings and Adam has started working on our bedroom floors. In between our vacations and having company visit us this summer we're also trying to put the last of the end-grain flooring in our condo (see pictures on the picture page if you're curious what end-grain flooring is!). We're already ahead of the game since Adam finished pulling up the old flooring the other day. Hope the family doesn't mind visiting a chaotic floorless condo!

ScHoOl'S OuT!!!

The last day of school was filled with fun and excitement! We watched the end of the year slideshow, had 5th grade promotion, the 5th grade ice cream social, yearbook signing outside in the sun and a staff/student dodgeball game. After the kids left all the teachers got to work packing up their rooms and putting things away for the summer.
That evening Adam and I went on a date to Twisted Fish. I had an amazing halibut burger and he had a chicken burger. We sat in the sun reminiscing about the school year and talking about our plans for Australia (we are down to less than two weeks!).

Adam and I are so grateful for our jobs.

We're lucky that we can go to work doing something that we love.
We're lucky that when we go to work we get hugs and high 5's.
We're lucky that even on the worst day we can find something good about work.
We're lucky that kids are funny and will always make you laugh.
We're lucky that we have a great group of teachers to work with.
And finally....
We're lucky that we have summer breaks where we can spend time together and travel.
Happy Summer....

HoT HoT HoT!!!!

Wowzers! It was field day for the intermediate kids today and the temp reached about 80 degrees! I was lucky enough to get stationed outside all day so I came home with a nice suntan/burn!
The weather is so wonderful that I have no desire to be inside. This evening I met up with the Carriker's (minus Mike-Poor guy was stuck inside at fire training) and the Hillis's (plus the nephew who is here visiting for the entire summer!) to hike out to the waterfall at the Mendenhall Glacier for a picnic dinner. It was so amazing to be sitting right next a huge waterfall with the glacier in the background. I LOVE my friends who are always up for getting out and enjoying this beautiful town.

Girls on the Run is so much F-U-N!!!

Last year I was approached by a friend of a friend who was trying to start Alaska's first chapter of Girls on the Run. She was looking for a coach at one of the elementary schools. It sounded fun and exciting and it was a free trip to North Carolina for the training so I said "YES!" even though I wasn't really sure of what I was agreeing to!
Girls on the Run is a prevention program that teaches girls be healthy both physically and emotionally. In the last year Juneau's program has expanded to include 4 schools and schools around Southeast. It's been such a great experience for me as the coach and I think the girls enjoyed themselves too!
Today was our 5K and it was amazing! There was face painting, silly hair, balloon animals and of course RUNNING! All the girls finished and had a lot of fun along the way!

A little Rain

It's hard to complain about a little rain after such amazing weather. Most of our classes had beach day today. The principal and I made the beach rounds and ate hotdogs with the kids. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves. It would've been nice to have another sunny day for the kids but none of them seemed too upset about a few sprinkles.
Adam is takng his kids up to the Mendenhall Glacier tomorrow. I hope the rain will hold off for their hike. It's a pretty long hike so decent weather would be nice. We're down to 8 days of school. We have field days, the end of the year slide show, graduation and autograph signing to fill up the last few days. Rollin', rollin', rollin'!
